Doctor Raphael Pappo developed Anavar (Oxandrolone) under the brand Oxandrin, which is still in use at Searle labs. He developed Anavar in 1964 to treat a variety of disorders characterized by muscular loss. Anabolic steroids are nearly unheard of on the market at this time, and they were among the first few oral steroids to make their impact on the bodybuilding scene. After Searle was bought over by Pfizer, anavar manufacture was halted.
Doctors, on the other hand, recommended oxandrolone to patients during the AIDS pandemic in the early 1980s.
